Lions make plans, set goals PDF Print E-mail

Dear Editor
The Grant Lions held their planning and goal meeting on Feb. 22 at the Hastings Memorial Library. Several people representing other organizations participated in the meeting and shared a number of ideas.
The Lions are currently supporting the following projects:
• Fund raising for individual and family assistance, which includes medical and other needs
• Sight, hearing and diabetes assistance,  which includes collecting glasses and hearing aids
• Highway cleanup
• Red Cross Bloodmobile assistance
• Volunteers helping the Mobile Screening Unit with sight and hearing testing
• Candy and nut sales as a fund raiser
• Peach sales to fund the NE Lions Foundation.
• Fair stand
• Boy Scout sponsor, including registration for adult registration fees
• Boy Scout fund drive
• Youth scholarships
• Park shelter maintenance
Other projects to be considered, supported or partnered with in Perkins County:
Chamber of Commerce requests: Community electronic marque, welcome packets need items from civic and religious organizations.
Westview Retirement requests: Help with property maintenance such as painting, assistance with landscape maintenance, put on programs for entertainment.
Perkins County Museum needs: Volunteers with maintenance and other duties.
Ministerial Association assistance: Financial support for Food Pantry, special request for hamburger patties.
Elementary School needs: Adult assistance as readers.
125 Anniversary Committee requests: Display and/or host an activity during the 125th county fair celebration.
SWNCB request for support: Rental housing projects.

Other suggestions: Consider a formal farmers market, care packages for the Armed Services, L-2 For Kids (Clothes for children), volunteers to help the elderly and handicapped with maintenance.
There are many other ideas that have not been included that deserve support to make our community better. The Lions can’t speak for other organizations, but we would be happy to have volunteers step up and participate in projects.
