Musicians score well at districts PDF Print E-mail


Perkins County High School students received many honors at the District Music Contest Friday, April 20 at North Platte St. Patrick’s.
Nearly 800 students from 14 schools participated.
“Overall it was a good day, and a very hectic day,” said Sheila Johnson, band instructor.
Outstanding instrumental performances included: flute solo–Ashley Kemling;  euphonium solo–Callie Meyer; flute solo–Rachel Carrig; clarinet quartet–Tori Osler, Allison Kiolbasa, Alyssa Young, Stephanie Schrotberger; piano solo–Rachel Carrig.
Meyer also received one of the honorable mention awards.
The Outstanding Performance Award (OPA) is designed to recognize the top performers at District Music Contest in the solo and small ensemble categories. These are the students who demonstrate preparation and performance excellence beyond the standard of a superior rating in skill and musicianship.  
Only one performance per judge may receive the Outstanding Performance Award. Each adjudicator is given the opportunity to designate one performance as an “Outstanding Performance.”  They may also nominate up to two additional performances as “Honorable Mentions.”
Outstanding vocal performances included: vocal solo–Ethan Behrends; vocal solo–Rachel Carrig; mixed duet–Tori Osler, Ethan Behrends;  mixed duet–Naomi Schmitt, Colton White; girls trio–Tori Osler, Emma Friedel, Naomi Schmitt; boys quartet–Colton White, Ty Summers, Kaleb Gaar, Zak Kurkowski; boys ensemble–Colton White, Ty Summers, Kaden Kammerer, Miles Steinwart,Patrick Teppert, Kaleb Gaar, Zak Kurkowski; girls ensemble–Emma Friedel, Casey Lake, Nichole Rubino, Anita Allgeier, Rebecca Cornelius, Elizabeth Krajewski, Sarah Medich-Meyer, Capri Meyer, Michelle Skeels, Hailey Sletten, Alyssa Young, Rachel Carrig, Dayna Dudden, Korey Lake, Amanda Osler, Brianna Stevens.
Excellent vocal performances included: vocal solo–Capri Meyer; girls duet–Sarah Medich-Meyer, Alyssa Young; girls quartet–Anita Allgeier, Hailey Sletten, Rachel Carrig, Korey Lake; girls ensemble–Emma Friedel, Casey Lake, Anita Allgeier, Elizabeth Krajewski, Sarah Medich-Meyer, Brianna Stevens, Korey Lake; girls ensemble–Capri Meyer, Michelle Skeels, Hailey Sletten, Alyssa Young, Rachel Carrig, Dayna Dudden, Amanda Osler; average good performance: girls duet–Dayna Dudden, Amanda Osler.
The large groups (concert band, jazz band, mixed chorus, and swing choir) performed for three judges.  They received the following scores:
Concert band–two outstanding scores, one excellent score  (one point away from three outstanding scores).
Jazz band–three outstanding scores.
Mixed chorus–three outstanding scores.
Swing choir–one outstanding score, two excellent scores  (three points away from three outstanding scores).
