York scores double digits in all-star game PDF Print E-mail

The 27th annual West All-Star Game matched 2011 high school graduates who were standouts on their respective teams during the 2010-2011 season. The event, sponsored by the Cambridge High School Organization, was held in front of a strong and enthusiastic crowd at Cambridge High School on Friday, May 27.
The West team, led by high-scorer Ricky Martin of Wauneta-Palisade, won the game 117-71.
Martin was named the West team’s most valuable player. The former Wa-Pa standout drew roars from his personal cheering section every time he bombed another three-point shot. Martin set a new all-star games record as he made eight shots from the three-point range. The old mark of five was set by Travis Hughes of Elwood as a member of the 1996 East All-Star boys team.
McCook’s Connor Larson also had a strong night, and garnered MVP consideration for his 24-point output.
In addition to Martin and Larson, the West team had three other players score in the double figures. Michael York of Perkins County had 17; Chris Bartels of Wa-Pa added 13 points and Sean May of Wallace chipped in 12.
The East was led by team MVP Justin Malleck of Southwest who scored 18 points. Garth Walbridge of Arapahoe added 15 points.
