Final tire disposal in Grant and Madrid this week
By Jan Rahn
Hosted by the Village of Madrid, a tire disposal already underway for Perkins County has been a huge success.
According to village employee Dave Steinwart, nearly 132 tons of tires have been received thus far, meaning the number of collections will be reduced.
Only one more disposal is set—it will be Friday, Aug. 31, from 4-7:30 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds in Grant and at the Madrid community dump.
Steinwart said enough grant money was received for 167 tons and the event will be closed when that amount is reached.
All tires must be off the rim. A signature is required before leaving tires.
“Everything is pretty much the same as it has been the last two times we’ve held this event,” said Steinwart. “However, due to the fact we’ve received less grant money this year than we had in previous years, more specifics are required in number of tires.”
Steinwart said everyone’s cooperation is appreciated and that more tire cleanups will be held sometime in the future.
