County’s time capsule ceremony is Sept. 5
Items needed for Perkins County’s 125th anniversary time capsule. Come be a part of history.
By Jan Rahn
A gathering for filling a time capsule as one of the events celebrating the 125th anniversary of Perkins County is scheduled for next week—and everyone is invited!
Come help mark a place in history on Wednesday, Sept. 5 when small memorabilia can be placed in a container that will be opened in 50 years.
Individuals and businesses are invited to place such items as photos, business cards, newsletters, small history write-up of a business etc. in the capsule between 8-9 a.m., with a break in between for a short one-half hour program.
Students of Perkins County Schools will be present to provide band and vocal music. Senator Mark Christensen will speak briefly.
Those attending are welcome to bring a lawn chair to the area on the northwest corner of the courthouse lawn where the capsule will be filled, dedicated and then buried at a later date.
Students will have a chance to place their own piece of current times in the capsule. And if they happen to be present in 2062 when the time capsule is to be opened, they will surely have a lot of fun reminiscing about the good ol’ days when they were a part of the event.
There is already a time capsule near the site that was buried on the county’s centennial celebration. That 100th year anniversary capsule will be opened in 2037.
Anyone who is interested in placing something in the time capsule but cannot attend the ceremony next week may take the items to city hall in Grant by Aug. 31.
