By Shari Friedel Tribune Staff Perkins County golfers were able to test their skills against higher-caliber players from larger schools at the Lexington Invite Friday, Sept. 7. The Plainsmen finished ninth in a field of 11 teams with a score of 473, their lowest team score so far this season. First place went to McCook, who scored 350 and second to North Platte with 388. Other teams were York 396, Holdrege 399, Minden 400, Hastings 404, Gothenburg 423, Cozad 471, Lexington 493 and Broken Bow NS. “It was a good growing experience for us,” said Head Coach Troy Kemling. “I felt like we rose the level of our playing accordingly, but still made too many costly mistakes.” Collectively, the girls improved their back nine scores by 20 strokes, which pleased Kemling. “Carra lowered her all-time best by keeping both nine-hole scores in the 50s. Shania Stickley and Hailey Sletten also posted scores in the 50s in their back nine.
