The Lady Plainsmen  traveled to a triangular in Sutherland early last week where they beat Creek Valley in three sets and lost to Sutherland in two. Sutherland also downed Creek Valley.
At a home game on Thursday, Sept. 20, the Lady Plainsmen lost to the Lady Indians of Ogallala in three sets, allowing the Indians’ coach Steve Morgan his 800th career win.
In spite of some good things happening on the Plainsmen side of the net, Perkins County’s blocking was not effective against Ogallala’s power hitters.
“We couldn’t shut down their offense,” said Head Coach Penny Hite.
“Brandie [Ross] was very aggressive and did some really nice things offensively and reading their defense,” said Hite. “Courtney Ostermiller did a good job coming in for Carlie [Waitley] in the front row.”
“I thought they did a good job of not giving up,” she said. “They played ‘til the end.”

Sutherland Triangular
The Lady Plainsmen defeated Creek Valley Lady Storm in three sets, 25-22, 21-25, 28-26, however, “We didn’t have the intensity tonight,” commented Coach Hite.
The girls needed to get their focus because missed serves were the outcome, said Hite.
“Allison Kiolbasa may have had only one ace serve, but she went in to finish the game— as the score was 27-26 game point and finished it with vengeance!” Hite said, after commending Shania Metcalf and Courtney McClenahan for stepping up to get the offense to respond.
The girls put the game behind them and moved on to play Sutherland.
Although the Lady Sailors downed the Lady Plainsmen 21-25 and 9-25, Hite said the girls moved much better defensively and their serving was much improved.
“We had a hard time breaking their defense and fell short.” Hite said. “In the second set we shut down and could tell that our mind set was elsewhere.”
