By Shari Friedel Tribune Staff The 2012 golf season ended at districts for the Perkins County golfers with none of the girls advancing to state. Districts was held in Ogallala on Monday, Oct. 1. “It was a tough day for our girls on the back nine,” said Head Coach Troy Kemling. “Our putting really let us down as we had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the greens.” The wind was a factor in their putting game, especially when attempting a putt with or against it. Senior Carra Johnson started strong, breaking into the 40s for the first time on the first nine holes. “Carra was hitting the ball exceptionally well for the majority of the day,” said Kemling. “She had some costly holes on the back that ended her chance of finishing in the top ten.” The other four girls all played the back nine first, then the front. “We knew we needed a good start from everyone in order for the team to be competitive,” said Kemling. “We just couldn’t put a few good holes together. After a rough start on the back nine, the girls bounced back with lower scores on the front. Freshman Amanda Reichert carded her lowest nine of the year with 55. “They represented Perkins County well,” Kemling said. “Their competitive spirit didn’t allow them to give up.” Final Team Scores 1.
