Dear Editor:
Last week Dan Hawk, sports announcer for KNOP TV aired an outstanding feature about Katie Rowley and Michael Dreiling who lost their lives in that tragic car accident in March.
Katie Rowley was my granddaughter and I knew what an outstanding young lady she was. But now, thanks to Dan and KNOP, the rest of Western Nebraska knows too. I never got to meet Michael, but I knew if Katie thought he was okay then he must have been one of the best.
Katie’s mom and my daughter, Pam Rowley, was not quite five years old when I moved my family from Hastings to Grant in the early 70s. I was born and raised in Indianapolis and had always lived in larger cities but I immediately fell in love with Grant and the people who lived there. Then, as well as now, they are the best.
There’s just nothing like the “family” feeling of a small community and I’m so happy that my daughter and son-in-law, Tim Rowley, chose Grant as the place where they wanted to raise their family.
Dan’s story emphasized the impact that Katie and Michael had on Grant but they would not have been able to do that if Grant hadn’t made such an impression on them. I’m so happy that KNOP cared enough to share their story.
