Input welcome on county’s new comprehensive plan
By Chris Loeffler
The Perkins County Comprehensive Plan is a written plan that includes information about where we are today, and plans for where we’d like to be in the future. The Zoning Regulations are enacted to help the county reach the goals set in the comprehensive plan.
The comprehensive plan is a necessary document that is required by state statute if a county enacts zoning regulations.
The original comprehensive plan was formed and adopted in 2000. It contains information on the following things in our county: demographics (population, housing, and economic statistics), community facilities, existing land uses, environmental data, issues and goals, future land uses, energy, and transportation elements.
The planning commission has been working to update the county’s comprehensive plan for some time now. Changes have been made, and there will be an informational segment given at the planning commission’s next meeting to be held Monday, Nov. 19.
The planning commission has some of its regular business to attend to at 7 p.m. before the informational section will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. They meet in the third floor District Courtroom of the Perkins County Courthouse, located at 200 Lincoln Avenue in Grant.
Citizens are invited to view the draft of the comprehensive plan ahead of the informational meeting at: http://www.co.perkins.ne.us/zoning.html
Click on “draft of Comprehensive Plan”. You can either email your comments on the draft to:
, or mail them to: Perkins County Planning and Zoning, PO Box 324, Grant NE 69140.
You can also call and voice your opinions at 308-352-2703. A public hearing meeting with the planning commission will take place in early December where you can ask questions or voice your opinion on the document.
Once the planning commission has heard the public’s comments, and makes additional changes, the document will be forwarded to the county board for another public hearing before final adoption.
Citizens will have at least two public hearings to make comment on the document. If anyone has any questions, please call 308-352-2703.
