Season ends at Sub-D for Lady Plainsmen
By Jan Rahn
One final game of the season for the Perkins County Lady Plainsmen—one they didn’t want to lose.
The girls fell in the first round of sub-district play in a three-set match against the North Platte St. Pat’s Lady Irish in Ogallala on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
“They didn’t have what it took to take down a team like that—they are the real deal,” said Coach Penny Hite.
The Lady Plainsmen fought hard but lost 10-25, 13-25 and 10-25 against one of the top teams in the area who ultimately ended up at the state competition being held this week.
“We couldn’t get our offense going,” said Hite. “We struggled on serve receive more than anything.”
Hite has spent the last several weeks in a close bond with the girls during volleyball season, and more than that, the past several years as an instructor in Perkins County Schools—she will miss the senior girls Shania Metcalf, Michi Prante and Jessie Woodmancy.
“It’s hard to say goodbye to these seniors,” said Hite. “They are very special to me.”
