The Wallace Lady Cats bas- ketball team enters the 2012 season with determination under the leadership of first year Head Coach Shannon Messersmith and first year Assistant Coach Adam Wright. Student managers, Alissa Rosentrater, Maggie May, Myah McConnell, Peyton Messersmith, and Shelby Ogier will also aid the Lady Cats.
There are16 girls out for the team this season.
The Lady Cats returning varsity players are Anna Griffiths (senior), Chelsea Sowle (senior), Sara Hubbard (junior), Alexandria Lundvall (junior), and Christina Daniels (sophomore). These ladies provided significant contributions to the 2011-2012 season and the coaches expect the seniors to step into leadership positions.
According to Coach Messersmith, Chelsea Sowle brings lots of experience, and Anna Griffiths and Katelyn Melton bring positive attitudes and positive work ethics, and everyone is excited to improve on last year’s record.
The Lady Cats were able to attend a summer team camp and played in summer league. According to Coach Messersmith, the girls gained some very valuable experience, and worked on skill improvement.
“The team has a strong work ethic, and we have a great deal of depth and experience,” said Messersmith. “Our team has a good mixture of size and quickness.”
“I am looking forward to a good year, and I am excited about the depth of our team,” he said. “The girls have been working very hard, and I was very proud of the effort everyone put in over the summer.”
The Lady Cats’ first game will be on Friday, Nov. 30 against the Maywood Tigers at Maywood. On Saturday, Dec. 1, they will play host to the Broncos of Wauneta-Palisade, with the junior varsity playing at 1 p.m.
On Saturday, both the boys and girls JV will play at the same time, and girls varsity will follow.
The Lady Cats look forward to an exciting year with lots of hard work and determination.
