Members of Perkins County’s 125th committee came together last week to put the county’s 50-year time capsule into its final resting place in the northeast corner of the courthouse lawn.
The capsule was sealed and buried by Holdrege Monument Company on Nov. 20, 2012—to be opened in 2062—hopefully in front of some of the kindergartners who performed during the ceremony held back on Sept. 5 to honor the county and fill the capsule.
It contains memorabilia such as photos, history of the area businesses, and a cell phone.
It’s now buried alongside a 50-year capsule that was put in place during the county’s centennial celebration 25 years ago.
The former capsule will be opened in 2037. The newly placed capsule will be opened in 2062.
