Grain elevator crumples, releasing bushels of wheat

Pinnacle Bank of Grant proudly presented Perkins County Health Services with a check for $4,000 which was designated to the important new equipment for newborn infants. The bilirubin analyzer is used to measure the bilirubin content in babies, allowing proper treatment if necessary, that prevents handicapped disabilities or even death in newborns. The new machine was to be more patient and doctor friendly as well as it was a light detector instead of the previous test, an invasive needle procedure.

After 10 years of service to the Grant Public School Foundation Board, Ron Kent was stepping down. Kent had been the president of the board for the last two years and for the last 10 years had served as treasurer or president. He was part of the establishment of the Board in 1992, and since then had given out hundreds of scholarships to graduates of Grant High School. Kent said without the support of the community, the foundation would not be what it was at that time and he was very grateful.

A one vehicle accident claimed the life of a Venango man the past Saturday evening. Ronnie Neese was traveling west on Highway 23 when he lost control of his vehicle causing it to go off the road and roll three times, throwing Neese from the car. He was 33 years old and was employed with Dodson Motors and was also an active member of the Venango Volunteer Fire Department.

“The easternmost bin at Kellogg’s Grain Co. elevator here in Grant crumpled about 3:30 last Thursday afternoon and released 90,000 bushels of wheat to let it spread and form a huge pile topped by the splintered wall and roof of the former container. There were no injuries as there was no one in the immediate area at the time.”

“Approximately 50 new books have been ordered for the library here. These books are on different topics such as fiction, nature, history, travel, biography and geography. Pupils anticipate that their vacations would be more pleasant and profitable by reading some of them.”
