On Tuesday night, Dec. 18 the Lady Cats played host to the Medicine Valley Raiders. In the first quarter it was clear that the Ladies were ready to battle, but Med. Valley, possibly wanting revenge for a late season volleyball loss, outscored the Lady Cats by seven in the first quarter, 9 to 16.
The second quarter was a battle of the defenses, neither team scored many points, and both teams were plagued by turnovers. As the Lady Cats headed into the locker room at the half, they trailed 12 to 21.
The third quarter saw the Wildcats with determination, but the Raiders were relentless. As the buzzer sounded at the end of the third quarter, the Raiders were ahead 22 to 33.
In the fourth quarter the Wildcats tried to build some momentum, and were within four points late in the fourth quarter. The Lady Cats outscored the Raiders by four, but time and possession was their enemy. The game ended with the Wildcats falling short 40 to 47.
Offensively, senior Chelsea Sowle led the Cats with 15 points (one free throw), followed by sophomore Christina Daniels with 12 points (one free throw and one from the field). Leading the team with offensive rebounds were Sowle (three), Lundvall (two), and Melton (one).
Leading the team with assists were Daniels (four), Melton (two), senior Anna Griffiths (one), Hubbard (one), and Lundvall (one).
Defensively, Hubbard led the Cats with two rebounds and five steals, followed by Melton with four rebounds and two steals. Daniels had two rebounds and two steals, Griffiths had two steals, Lundvall had one rebound and one steal, junior Paige Aylward had one rebound, and Sowle had one steal.
