Two Perkins County wrestlers place first in new year meet PDF Print E-mail

Perkins County wrestlers resumed their 2012-2013 season by participating in an invitational in Garden County on Saturday, Jan. 5.
As a team, the Plainsmen finished eighth out of 20 participating teams, with a score of 64.5.
Finishing first was Maxwell with 144 points. Bayard was second with 129.5 and Sedgwick County/Fleming third with 89.5.
Other teams and scores were North Platte 78; Bridgeport 77.5; Hay Springs 77.5; SMC 65.5; Southeast 57; Mullen 56; Sutherland 48; Garden County 41; Morrill 35; Banner County 31; Hemingford 30; Crawford 23; Hyannis 12; Sioux City 12; Minatare 7 and Creek Valley 0.
Bringing home first place medals were Austin Thelander, and Vinny Ross.
A fourth place medal went home with Trey Johnson.

Austin Thelander (106 lb.) first place, 22 team points. Bye; bye; won by decision vs. C. Weber, Hemingford 6-0; pinned A. Guerra, North Platte 3:31.
Brennan Toner (120 lb.) lost by technical fall vs. C. Ray, Hay Springs 0-15; bye; pinned by K. Rhodes, North Platte 1:51.
Trey Johnson (126 lb.) fourth place, 13 team points. Bye; pinned K. Graham, Sedgwick County 2:42; lost by decision vs. L. Ray, Hay Springs 15-16; pinned T. Widener, Bridgeport 1:34; pinned by A. Murphy, North Platte, 3:50.
Mark Hanson (138 lb.) six team points. Won by decision vs. W. Christensen, Bridgeport 4-2; pinned G. Flanders, North Platte 5:42; pinned by D. Riggs, Maxwell 5:29; lost by decision vs. W. Christensen 1-6.
Vinny Ross (285 lb.) first place, 23.5 team points. Won by technical fall vs. B. Johnson, Mullen 17-0; pinned W. Frerichs, Bridgeport :30; pinned M. Hessler, Morrill 1:26; pinned J. Cosler, SMC :26.

The Plainsmen hosted a JV tournament on Tuesday, Jan. 8, and will attend the Chase County Invite this Saturday, Jan.12.
