Plainsmen take second in tourney
One Year Ago January 12, 2012 Paper U.S. Savings Bonds went electronic after Dec. 31–a move that would save taxpayers $120 million in just five years. The Nebraska State Patrol was celebrating 75 years of service. The State Safety Patrol was created by LB147, and signed into law on May 11, 1937. On Nov. 22, 1937, 44 men took the oath of office becoming Nebraska’s first statewide law enforcement officers. Ten Years Ago January 9, 2003 The Omaha World Herald Foundation awarded a $2,000 grant to the Perkins County Historical Society to be used toward their roof repair projects. The Plainsman boys basketball team placed second in the eighth annual Grant Holiday Basketball Tournament. The Plainsmen easily swept their first opponent, the Paxton Tigers, in the first round, but lost to Sandy Creek in the championship match.
