By Teri Moss, County Executive Director
927 Central Ave., Grant NE
There will be a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) informational meeting on Thursday, May 16. This meeting will be held at the Hastings Memorial Library, 246 Central Ave in Grant starting at 7 p.m. with a light meal provided.
Topics covered will include general signup information, options for expiring CRP, improving wildlife habitat, and options to improve your offer for acceptance. General CRP Signup #45 will run from May 20 through June 14, 2013. CRP acres that are expiring on Sept. 30 along with any other cropland acres could be offered at that time.
2013 ACRE Signup
Farmers in Perkins County are reminded that the deadline to enroll in the 2013 ACRE program is June 3. With Nebraska currently in an extreme drought, producers are encouraged to look at this program to help manage their risk. The Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program offers an alternative to the counter-cyclical component of the Direct and Counter-Cyclical Program (DCP).
Producers enrolling in the 2013 ACRE program will receive an ACRE direct payment equal to 80 percent of the DCP direct payment, and 70 percent of the county loan rate if placing grain under a marketing assistance loan.
The ACRE payment (which replaces the counter-cyclical payment) uses the planted and considered planted acreages of commodity crops (rather than base acres) if revenue is below the historical state average and farm average.
Producers who want to enroll in ACRE for the first time, or for those who want to continue to participate in ACRE, need to make their 2013 ACRE election by June 3. All producers sharing in the base acres on the farm, must sign the CCC-509 form by June 3. There are no late filed provisions, and the 2013 ACRE election is irrevocable.
The USDA Service Center will have a display in their front entry honoring veterans from the middle of May until after the 4th of July celebration. Any veteran who would like to share memorabilia, uniforms, or pictures please contact us at (308) 352-4747
