Dig into Reading is the 2013 summer reading program theme
Readers of all ages will explore all things underground this summer as Hastings Memorial Library presents “Dig Into Reading” during their summer library program. Activities may include programs on dinosaurs or construction vehicles, animals that live underground or Ancient Egypt, caves, rocks, and more.
The 2013 Summer Reading Program is open to young people preschool through sixth grade.
Story times will start on June 5 and 6 and continue on Wednesday and Thursday mornings through June 27. The schedule is as follows: Story hours for ages three through kindergarten starting at 9:30 a.m. Two sessions: Wednesday OR Thursday (Choose one).
Programming for first through third graders starting at 10:30. One session: Thursday’s only.
Each program will typically run between 45 and 50 minutes. The story time portion of the program will conclude on July 10 with a pool party celebration at Grant City Park.
The library will also be holding activities once or twice a month for fourth through sixth graders. Book clubs, fun themed activities, and movie or game parties are just some of the activities that are planned. These events are yet to be scheduled.
Please contact the library for more information and to register. Please note that all grade levels are for the 2012-2013 school year, not this coming year.
In addition to weekly story times and programs, the library is also hosting a reading club. This can be done separately or in conjunction with the story times.
The reading club will run eight weeks beginning on June 3 and ending July 27.
Thanks to generous donations from area businesses, participants are going to enjoy lots of awesome prizes including bookmarks, toys, coupons, and books. This year the library is going to offer grand prizes at the end of the program. These include items donated from local businesses, a TAG Reading system for younger kids, and Kindle eReaders for older readers. The more kids read this summer, the more chances they have to win.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program is going on now at the library at 505 Central Avenue in Grant.
