Wallace students to host blood drive July 19
The Wallace High School Scholarship Blood Drive will be held Friday, July 19 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. CT at the Wallace Community Hall.
The summer blood drive is hosted by a student rather than an organization but there is still a goal to be met in order to qualify for scholarship money.
The goal for this drive is 25 pints of blood with 30 percent of the those units being from young people between the ages of 16-24.
The Red Cross has created the Live. Give. Life. program to increase summer donation opportunities for the 16 to 24-year-old donors. The youth coordinator is encouraged to get younger individuals involved in donating and hopefully get them to establish a tradition of giving.
Another goal of the Live. Give.Life program is awareness. Each blood donation can help save up to three lives and young people need to realize this and be made aware of how much their donation impacts lives.
Appointments for the July 19 blood drive can be made by calling Landon at 308-534-7548.Walk-ins, however, are welcomed and needed.
Interested 16-year-olds need to obtain a parental consent form prior to donating, other teens just need to be aware of the donor eligibility for height and weight.
Contact the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 for questions concerning eligibility due to travel, medication, etc.
Make a difference, donate blood and impact lives.
