Former Grant resident shows photographs at Meadowlark
This month’s featured artist at Meadowlark Gallery in Grant is Grant native Katie (Lagler) Arndt, who currently owns her own portrait studio in Cozad.
Katie was born and raised in Grant, the daughter of Dean and Janet Lagler, and graduated from Grant High School in 1995.
Her love of art began in high school with the instruction of art teacher, Lance Wurst.
She was also inspired by magazines such as Nebraskaland, National Geographic and Smithsonian, publications known for their photography.
She was active in the arts and crafts side of 4-H and eventually studied graphic design at Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
She apprenticed with Ogallala’s Dave Fowler from 2000-2005 and opened “Katie Arndt Photography” in Cozad in 2006.
Katie has won numerous professional photography awards in the state including several distinguished print awards, Novice of the Year, a spot in the coveted Professional Photographers of America’s Loan Collection Book, top ten non-master photographers in Nebraska, and has had her work featured on a magazine cover.
She describes her work as “clean, simple and timeless.”
“I get to meet many interesting people and I get the opportunity to create something new every day,” remarked the artist. “I love creating memories and moments that will be passed down from one generation to the next.”
Next on the agenda at Meadowlark Gallery is a collection of paintings by Paula Leibbrandt, with an open house scheduled for Sept. 8.
Visit Meadowlark Gallery on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8 p.m. March-November and check the arts council’s Facebook page for past shows and a current gallery schedule.
The gallery is operated by the Perkins County Area Arts Council, who meets the second Thursday of each month, 7 p.m. at the gallery. The meetings are open to the public.
