Republican opinion differs on health law
A recent letter to the editor correctly stated that Nebraska Republicans want to repeal the President’s health care law, known to many as Obamacare. Never mentioned in the letter is our reasoning.
Here are the facts: Nonpartisan sources have shown time and time again that this law will hurt our nation’s economy and will not reduce health care costs—in fact, it will do the exact opposite for many.
But you don’t have to take Sen. Johanns’ or Gov. Heineman’s word for it that this law will have damaging effects, just look at the recent articles. McClatchy news service has reported “costs likely to rise for many” and leaders of labor unions wrote a letter saying the law will “destroy the very health and wellbeing of workers.” The Washington Examiner even cites studies saying 74 percent of “small business will fire workers, cut hours” because of Obamacare.
When you look at the facts—removing politics from the equation—it’s hard to argue that keeping this law in place is the best course of action.
If this flawed, unaffordable and unsustainable law is taken off the books, Sen. Johanns has been very clear that Congress must then work to implement real reforms to lower health care costs and increase access.
