Summer vacation is winding down, and in a week the halls at Perkins County Schools will be abuzz with students starting the 2013-14 term.
First day for K-12 students is Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 8 a.m., with dismissal on that day at 1:30 p.m.
Regular hours will vary slightly after that:
School Hours
Monday-Thursday:
• K-5 starts 8:05 a.m. with dismissal at 3:30 p.m.
• Grades 6-8 begin at 8:05 a.m. and dismiss at 3:15 p.m.
• High school classes start at 8 a.m. and dismiss at 3:32 p.m.
Fridays:
K-5 grades dismiss at 2:30 p.m.; grades 6-8 dismiss at 2:15 p.m.; 9-12 dismiss at 2:31 p.m.
Meal Prices
• Breakfast will be served to grades K-8 at a price of $1.50.
• Lunch prices are:
Grades K-5 $2.25, grades 6-12 $2.75, adults $3.50.
Extra milk is 25 cents and a second entree helping is 75 cents. There is no charge for seconds on fruits and vegetables.
Activity Passes
Fans can obtain passes for the activities offered at Perkins County Schools.
Adults $50, senior citizens $25, students K-12 $25.
A family pass can be purchased for $130 which includes two adults and unlimited K-12 students living in the same home.
Swimming
The physical education curriculum includes swimming for the first two weeks of school.
Students in K-8 will participate in these classes until the end of August.

Sept. 2: Labor Day—­no school.
Oct. 24-25: Parent/teacher conference and staff development—no school.
Nov. 28-29: Thanksgiving vacation—no school. Dismiss Nov. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
Dec. 23-Jan. 3: Winter break—no school.
Feb. 6: PreK-8 no school for parent/teacher conference.
Feb. 17: No school—staff development.
March 13-14: Spring break—no school. Dismiss March 12 at 1:30 p.m.
March 17: No school—district speech/staff development.
April 18-21: Easter—no school.
April 25: No school 9-12 for district music.
May 10: Graduation 1 p.m.
May 20: Last day.
