A “Bowl for the Cure” benefit will be held Sunday, Sept. 15 at the Imperial Lanes to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Imperial’s own Cathy Weiss.
Weiss was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, followed by surgeries in March and April.
She just completed eight rounds of aggressive chemotherapy and is beginning 6.5 weeks of five-days-a-week radiation treatment in September.
Weiss said the prognosis looks very good.
Surprised with Benefit
She said she was shocked and surprised when she heard about the benefit.
Alex Marshall organized the benefit in conjunction with the U.S. Bowling Congress and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Marshall formed Chase County Bowling last year to promote bowling tournaments and benefits.
This will be the second benefit Marshall has organized. He held a fundraiser to support the high school bowling team.
Marshall said proceeds of this tournament will be split between Weiss and Bowl for the Cure.
The tournament will begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 15, with registration beginning at 1 p.m. The entry fee will be $50 per person.
Marshall said the tournament is open to all and no handicap is needed to participate.
The tournament will feature a lowball format, where the bowler tries to keep their score as low as possible, much as in golf.
The trick will be to keep the ball out of the gutter, which automatically counts 10.
Marshall said there will be prizes and other awards planned.
For more information or to sign up, people can contact Marshall at 308-883-2348.
Weiss is the sister of Grant resident     Amy Thelander.
