Two trailers lost in fire on Aug. 31 near Grant PDF Print E-mail

Grant Volunteer Fire Department members responded to a call at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 six miles east of Grant.
Two uninhabitable mobile homes sitting on the property of Jack Stevens were on fire when crews arrived on the scene. The mobile homes were used for storage and owned by Mid-America Agri-Products Wheatland, LLC.
Both trailers were completely destroyed in the fire and Don Softley, GVFD chief, estimated damages to be between $300-$500.
The cause was likely from sparks from burning trash in a trash barrel on the property, according to Softley.
Crews were on hand for over an hour. Softley said it took very little time to put out the fire, however, clean up and hot spots in the area took the greatest amount of time.
No injuries were reported at the scene and no mutual aide was called in by the local department.
