Come enjoy open house
By Dana Harris
Grant City Administrator
I can’t remember the number of times since I’ve been here that someone has told me they couldn’t do my job because they wouldn’t be able to “put up with” one aspect of it or another. And, as with everything, some days are better than others.
I’m sure for most people things like nuisance ordinances, sewer pipes, potholes, and wholesale electric rates have limited appeal.
But really, I have a great job!
I get to meet so many interesting people and work on a lot of interesting projects, some of which most people have no idea the city is involved in.
Many aspects of city management go unseen but sometimes I get a chance to share something exciting and that makes my job even better.
This Saturday, one of those exciting events is taking place and I would love to share it with all of you. We are having an airport open house and fly-in at the Grant Municipal Airport Saturday morning and there will be many fun activities for the entire family. Please join us for what should be a great day!
From 8 to 10 a.m. the local chapter of the EAA will be providing free flights for kids ages 8 to 17. You can read more about the Young Eagles program elsewhere in this paper. It’s a great chance for kids to learn about flying and have some fun. Please note that on-site parental permission is required.
We are also planning to have medical aircraft (including a helicopter) available for the public to view. Without our airport it would be difficult for a community of our size and location to bring in the medical specialists we do. It would also be difficult to transfer those in need of certain medical care out in a timely manner.
On Saturday, you’ll have a chance to visit with the flight crews and learn more about what they do.
Our local aerial applicators will also have their planes on display.
Most of you have seen them in the air, but this will be a chance for you to see them up close and ask questions of the pilots.
Ag spraying is one of those important but often overlooked activities taking place at our airport that contributes enormously to the economy of Grant and the county.
There will also be a flight instructor or two present on Saturday.
If you think you might be interested in learning to fly, this is a great chance for you to come out and see what it’s all about. I’m sure they’ll have some great stories to share!
Oh, and let’s not forget the food. The local EAA chapter was very successful in gathering donations to sponsor the open house. The PCYDC will be serving burgers and hot dogs for lunch at no cost to the public thanks to our generous sponsors.
See the-fly in ad in this paper for a complete list of the donors.
Thank you, sponsors!
While you’re at the airport be sure to stop and say hello–you’ll recognize me and the airport board members by our matching shirts.
As airport manager, I want to take this chance to publicly thank our airport board members. You are a great group of guys who often go out of your way to make sure everything runs smoothly at KGGF and I appreciate it–thank you!
Readers, please accept this invitation and come out to the airport on Saturday morning. See the planes, visit, eat, and enjoy a great event!
