Football, weather, politics and everything in-between was discussed Saturday night in Grant as Dan Hughes of Venango, who recently announced his candidacy for legislature (44th district), held a campaign kick-off at the Perkins County fairgrounds.
Hughes, a farmer and business owner, was amazed by the turnout from friends, family and supporters at the event in Grant.
“I am truly amazed by the support I am getting from the local area. It is very gratifying and humbling people are willing to come out and support me, not only moral support, but financial support,” Hughes said. “I am grateful of the support I have received for this endeavor.”
Hughes looks forward to getting out to the other areas of the district to meet new people and hear the issues that are important to them.
“There are a lot of good people out there I have not had the chance to meet yet and I am looking forward to. The people of southwest Nebraska are just good people,” Hughes said.
While in the process of campaigning, Hughes has been touching base with people on the important issues and reports that taxes are always a big issue and water is a large issue for ag producers in the 44th district.
“There are many issues and I am here to listen and have them educate me on the issues important to people. If it is important to them, it is important to me,” Hughes said.
