Casey Lake, 19, of Grant, was sentenced to four years of probation and 200 hours of community service in a vehicular homicide case.
Lincoln County District Court Judge Richard Birch on Monday, Nov. 4, sentenced Lake after she pleaded no contest to vehicular homicide, a Class IIIA felony, on Aug. 26 of this year.
Lake was charged in connection to the crash on March 16, 2013 on Interstate 80 that killed Emma K. Redinger, 19, of Ogallala.
As part of her community service Lake must speak to high school and college students about her experiences. She must also serve 24 hours jail time on December 25, March 16 and May 31 for the next four years as part of the probation. The dates represent Christmas, the date of the accident and Redinger’s birthday.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, around 12:35 a.m. on March 16, Lake lost control of her vehicle, a 2007 Pontiac she was driving east of Hershey, rolling the vehicle. The state patrol indicated alcohol was involved.
