|Madrid holiday open house Dec. 5|
By Tim Linscott
A veritable cornucopia of holiday cheer will be found in Madrid on Thursday, Dec. 5.
A community-wide open house involving over 30 businesses will give shoppers a chance to check off their holiday gift list and start ramping up their Christmas cheer.
The open house will go from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. and every business plus several home-based businesses will be having specials and/or door prizes.
Rudolph will be in Madrid from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Bootleg Bar. The Jolly Elf himself, Santa, will hit Madrid at 5 p.m., circulating around town greeting people before heading to Regier Equipment to hand out treats to children.
Random drawings will be held throughout the day at different locations in Madrid with a main drawing at 6 p.m. at the community center.
Starting Nov. 18, every purchase at a Madrid merchant allows shoppers the opportunity to enter the drawing on Dec. 5.
Home-based businesses will be at the community center for people to see their special wares.
Madrid Day is held every other year in late summer and Melanie Carman of Adams Bank and Trust began talking with other businesses about doing something during the holiday season to showcase all of the exciting opportunities in Madrid.
The idea blossomed as many business owners gravitated to the notion and began formulating the holiday open house.
“We want others to know what Madrid has to offer and just have fun,” Carman said. “We really want people to come here and enjoy the holiday season.”
As the plan began to develop, the list of businesses kept growing and the number of people wanting to participate also started growing.
Organizers are hoping this becomes an annual event and ideas for next year are already in the works.
