Wrestlers making steady gains PDF Print E-mail

Plainsmen wrestlers traveled to Gordon for their third tournament of the year, placing 12th in a field of 14 attending teams with a score of 26.
Chadron’s team took the first place spot with a score of 128; Valentine was second with 126.5; Gordon-Rushville third with 113. Following was Bennett County 67.5; Hay Springs 66; Sidney 54.5; Mitchell 46; Mullen 40; Pine Ridge 37; Ainsworth 35; Red Cloud and Little Wound, both 0.
Senior Plainsman Garrett Toner captured first place in the 138 lb. bracket, scoring 22 of the team’s points. Tyler Sando finished in fourth among the 182 lb. competitors.
“Garrett wrestled well in securing the 138-pound title,” said Coach Dean Friedel. “He came from the third seed and knocked off the top seed.”
“The other wrestlers are making gains each week, he added. “Many of the schools at this tournament we will not see again this season. It’s nice to see different competition.”

Next Action
Staying a little closer to home, the Plainsmen will participate in the Sutherland tourney on Saturday, Dec. 21, where a good deal of new competition is expected.
