Youth wrestling to begin in Perkins County PDF Print E-mail

The  Perkins County Youth Wrestling will be kicking off another season beginning in January.
The program’s intention is to develop an interest in wrestling at an early age for the youth of Perkins County. The program will be associated with  Huskerland Wrestling. The wrestling format of Huskerland is folkstyle, similar to what the junior high and high school students currently participate in.
The purpose of Huskerland Wrestling is to advance the quality of amateur wrestling in the State of Nebraska, with the objective of supporting the growth of youth wrestling in grades 3-8 through an annual state competition. PCYW encourages wrestlers in grades K-8 to participate.
Huskerland provides an introduction to the National Federation of High School’s rules and regulations to coaches and wrestlers. Modifications are made to these rules in consideration to the age and experience of the wrestlers. These rules and modifications are supported throughout the entire Huskerland program. Membership clubs support these rules in competitions throughout the club season.
An informational meeting and registration will be held on Jan.7 at the high school’s multipurpose room at 6:30. Included will be basic Huskerland information, insurance, practices, coaching, use of uniforms and a host of other aspects of the program.
Anyone interested in the program is encouraged to attend the meeting.
