Liza Faith Robertson, daughter of Brad and Julie Robertson of Elsie, is the first baby born in Perkins County in 2014.
Liza was born at 12:52 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at Perkins County Health Services in Grant.
She weighed seven pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 inches long.
Winning the title of ‘First Baby of the New Year’ was a bit of a surprise to the Robertsons as another couple, Brad’s cousin Chris and Rachelle Fryzek of Madrid, were actually due before Liza. Liza was not due until Jan. 23.
“We were expecting my cousin to have the New Year’s baby first. She (Liza) is a week early, so this is very memorable,” Brad Robertson said.
“We knew we were in the running for the New Year’s baby when we went into labor and knew no one else here was delivering that day,” Julie said.
Liza has two siblings, Elliana, six, and Wyatt, four.
Wyatt said he hopes to show Liza how to play basketball by the time she is two and noted ‘it feels great to be a big brother.’
Liza’s grandparents are Carol Robertson of Madrid, Bill and Marian Robertson of Elsie and Dennis and Janet Hofer of Sioux Falls, S.D.
The couple picked the name Liza because it ‘just had a nice ring to it,’ and Brad’s great- grandmother was called Lizzy.
“We feel extremely blessed and thankful,” Julie Robertson said. We are extremely thankful for the excellent care we received from the staff at Perkins County Clinic and Hospital before, during and after Liza’s birth.”
For being named the New Year’s baby, the Robertsons receive prizes from various businesses, including: The Grant Tribune-Sentinel, Adams Bank and Trust, Adams Lumber Company, Deaver Computer, AR Salon, Country Supply, DJ’s Bar and Grill, Frenchman Val- ley Coop, Grant Auto Parts, 310 American Grill, Valley Bank, Grant Packing, Grant Pharmacy, Hatch’s Super Foods, Im- age Total Fitness, In & Out, The Hairworks and Studio Design.
