FCCLA students compete at STAR PDF Print E-mail

On Jan. 15, 75 FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) members from seven schools came together, for the second straight year, at Elwood for the District 11 STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition) Contest. Students attending competed in 22 different competitive events. Chapters attending were: Medicine Valley, Elwood, Dundy County-Stratton, Cambridge, Perkins County, Chase County and Arapahoe.
Topics focused on family and community strengths and weaknesses from nutrition to relationships. Some students gave informative speeches and others told about projects they had been doing throughout the year. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is the only student organization that has the family as the central focus.
Four members attended from Perkins County High School FCCLA. Kylie Hanson and Alexis Schmidt competed in the Focus on Children Senior Division event and received silver medals.
Ashley Kempf and Ashley Briggs competed in the Parliamentary Procedure Test Junior Division and received silver medals and will represent District 11 at State Conference in Lincoln in April.
Members were accompanied by advisor Cathy Ochsner and School Counselor Jane Culver. Cathy and Jane both served as judges for the competition.
