Fire near Elsie calls four departments to action
By Tim Linscott
Four area fire departments responded to a field fire near Elsie on Friday, Jan. 24.
Around 10 a.m. Elsie, Madrid, Grant and Wallace firefighters responded to a call in a field located at Roads 751 and 345.
Pivot repair work sparked a cornstalk fire in the field and high winds made the situation potentially dangerous.
According to Ben Pelster of the Elsie fire department, the fire burned between 15-20 acres and reached a wheat field, effectively slowing the blaze down and allowing firefighters to contain the fire.
“With the winds being that high, it was slowed down enough hitting the wheat field we were able to knock it down,” Pelster said.
“It would have been a big problem had that not happened.”
No injuries were reported and there was no damage to the pivot.
