On Thursday, Wallace jumped to an early lead in the first quarter, but gave it away before halftime. During the fourth quarter the Cyclone’s defense was no match for the Wildcat’s offense as Wallace scored 20 points in the final minutes to win the game by five points.
Junior Christina Daniels led this scoring force with 24 points, 14 of those points came from the free throw line. Sara Hubbard added 8 points while Maggie May contributed five. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Hayley Storm- 4, Paige Aylward- 2, and Morgan Messersmith- 1. Senior Aylward pulled down four of the team’s 12 offensive rebounds and Messersmith passed the ball off for six assists.
Defensively, Wallace snatched 27 rebounds; Daniels earned 15 of recorded boards as well as adding four blocked shots. The Wildcats took the ball away from the Cyclones for 20 steals Friday night causing frustration in the home team.
On Friday, the Wildcat’s controlled the basketball for the first two minutes of the game. Neither team was successful in scoring until Daniels hit two free throws four minutes into the game. Hitchcock County was finally able to lift the lid from their bucket, scoring a field goal with 16 seconds left in the first quarter.
Wallace comfortably led the Falcons until a series of events allowed them to come within one point, 40-41, with two minutes left in the game. A steal and several Falcon turnovers allowed the Wildcats to finish strong, winning by 13 points.  Two Wildcats recorded double digits in scoring, Daniels- 25 and Alex Lundvall- 10. Contributing to the win were Hubbard- 7, Storm- 6, May- 4, Messersmith- 2, and Mickayla Sheets- 1. The team grabbed 22 offensive rebounds and 28 defensive rebounds.
The Wallace Lady Wildcats (9-10) faced the Hayes Center Cardinals (9-12) in sub-district action on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Southwest High School. This marked the third time the two teams have faced each other this season.
