Thelander champion, Ross runner-up at state wrestling

Austin Thelander took the gold at the 2013 Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament. He was the first Perkins County wrestler to claim a state title. Vinny Ross captured second place. Mark Hanson and Trey Johnson also competed.

Feb. 19, 2004
Following input from each board member, the Grant and Wheatland boards agreed to pursue merging the schools beginning with the 2005-06 school year. Discussion was held regarding which grades would be housed in which school, co-oping sports, transportation needs, and putting together a timeline for accomplishing issues dealing with staffing and finances.

Feb. 22, 1989
The Perkins County Retirement Association edged closer to its goal as 13 applicants were received for living units at the proposed Westview congregate facility. The number of applications received moved them closer to finalizing preliminary plans. Projected construction costs for the facility was estimated at $1.5 million.

Feb. 20, 1964
The Grant Lions Club and the Grant Area Jaycees joined forces to rebuild the local tennis courts. The annual pancake feed sponsored by the Lions Club netted $116.25 which was the initial start of the Tennis Court Fund. Committees studied tennis courts in the area to learn the best method of surfacing. They questioned the practicality of building courts that could be flooded during the cold weather and used as an ice skating rink.

Feb. 23, 1939
Progress was being made on the Kingsley Dam north of Ogallala. The hull of one of the two dredges to be used in the fill of the dam was to be ready for launching within the month. Each dredge would be capable of pumping 2,500 cubic yards of earth per hour.
