Local youth wrestle in Holyoke PDF Print E-mail

On March 8, nine members of the youth wrestling club in Perkins County went to Holyoke, Colo., to face some great competition.
Around 350 kids from all over the region came to the tournament. It was formatted on a eight-man bracket, which means organizers paired eight wrestlers closest in weight to wrestle each other.
“It was a tough tournament and the kids did a great job,” youth coach Garrett Toner said. “I saw lots of improvement by the kids but there are some moves we need to work on, but overall, the kids all wrestled really hard.”
Youth wrestling coach Brenan Toner said, “I am really proud of all of them.”
Those participating in the tournament included: Ariel Johnson (0-2 for the day); Cobe Wells (3-1, third place); Brecken Uehling (0-2); Cal Wells (2-1, second place); Connor Wells (2-1, second place); Cy Wells (3-1, third place); Mason Toner (2-2, fourth place); Eli Busick (1-2); Dominic Wendell (2-1, second place).
The team placed 10th overall with 100 points out of 20 teams.
“We represented Perkins County very well with only nine kids going,” Brenan Toner said. “Teams ahead of us brought around 20 to 30 kids.”
