Dental award recipient has local ties PDF Print E-mail

Deb Schardt, RDH, PHRDH received the 2014 Dental Hygienist of the Year award at the Nebraska Dental Hygienists Annual Session this spring.
She is the daughter of Evelyn McGregor of Ogallala and the late Clifford McGregor.
This award is given to a person who has obtained the following achievements: Been a licensed dental hygienist who has practiced for at least five years, a current member of the Nebraska Dental Hygienists’ Association for at least five years, served as an officer or committee chair for at least three years, and exhibits evidence of leadership for the dental hygiene profession.
Schardt graduated from UNMC’s dental hygiene program in 1990 and has held several offices within the NDHA and her local components including: Lincoln Dental Hygienist Association secretary, Greater Nebraska Dental  Hygiene Association  vice president and president twice, Nebraska Dental Hygienist Association  (NDHA) secretary,  NDHA president elect, NDHA president, NDHA immediate past president and she is currently NDHA’s  State Legislative chair.
Schardt was instrumental in the passing of LB484, with the Public Health Permit which allows dental hygienists direct access to adults in long term care facilities and public health settings. She has spent many hours making this dream a reality.
She currently serves as adjunct clinical faculty at Central Community College in Hastings where she has been for over 10 years and is also the public health dental hygienist for Public Health Solutions District Health Department, serving the counties of: Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline and Thayer.
