Marcia Brown - July 22, 2010
Marcia Brown was born on March 8, 1942 at Trenton, Neb. She was the fourth of five girls born to George and Eleanor Keller Brown.
She grew up in Trenton where she graduated in 1960. After graduating she moved to Denver and was employed by Martin Marietta as a secretary for two years. In 1962 Marcia moved to San Francisco where she worked as a secretary until 1969. She lived in Texas for two years and in 1971 she moved to Los Angeles where she worked as a customer service manager for a garment manufacturer. In 2005 she retired and moved to Grant, Neb. to be closer to family.
While in California, Marcia did volunteer work for inner-city tutoring programs and abused women shelters. She enjoyed attending musical events, plays, and football games.
Marcia always based her vacation time around family and came back to Nebraska to see her mother and sisters. In her retirement in Grant she enjoyed reading, cooking and attending auctions. She especially enjoyed attending her 50 year high school reunion this past May.
Marcia had developed a malignancy earlier this summer and had been transferred to the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant where she died on Thursday afternoon, July 22, 2010. She had reached the age of 68.
Marcia is survived by her mother, Eleanor of Trenton; four sisters, Wanda Lewis of Trenton, Donna Whetstone of Hamden, Ohio, Sandra and her husband William Knapp of Silverdale, Wash., and Connie Skeels of Brandon, Neb.; nieces and nephews who she had a close relationship with other relatives and friends.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service was held on July 28 at the Perkins County Senior Center in Grant with John Long officiating. A reception at the center followed the service.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
