Joyce Brantley - January 07, 2009

Joyce Charlene Brantley, 77, of Aurora, Colo., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at the Sable Care Center Nursing Home in Aurora. She is the mother of Rod Brantley and Teri Ellis of Ogallala, Neb.
Joyce was born July 22, 1931 at Dallas, the daughter of Wesley and Jessie (Parks) Shaw. When she was a child, the family moved to Denver. She graduated from East High School in 1949.
After graduation, she worked in a drug store and worked as a model.
In 1951, she married Darrell Brantley. She was a member of the Aurora First Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday School, sponsored missionettes, helped organize the annual missions banquet, prepared Wednesday evening family suppers, was in charge of the mother-daughter banquets, led prayer breakfasts, and helped provide thousands of meals from the church to the poor.  
The couple also started the hot lunch program for the Aurora Christian Academy.
In 1984, she became the director of Women’s Ministries for the Aurora Assembly of God Church.
Among her hobbies were cooking, flower gardening and travel, including a visit to the Holy Land in 1980.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Brantley and wife Mary of Cripple Creek, Colo., Richard Brantley of Amherst, Ohio and Rod Brantley and wife Dawn of Ogallala; two daughters, Sherry Brantley Stef of Aurora, Colo. and Teri and husband Steve Ellis of Ogallala; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Peggy Parks of Denver.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Newcomer Funeral Home at Aurora with the Rev. Howard Cummings officiating.

Her ashes will be spread by the family at a later date.
Newcomer Funeral Home-East Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
