Dorothy Hatch - January 22, 2009


Dorothy Hatch was born on July 5,1927 at Eddyville, Neb. She was the youngest of three children born to Clarence and Lillie Mae Long Mutchie. The family moved to Grant, Neb. when Dorothy was an infant and she made Grant her home the rest of her life.
Dorothy graduated from Perkins County High School in 1945 with normal training and taught country school for two years southeast of Grant.
Dorothy was married to Dean Hatch on Aug. 23, 1947 in Grant. She was able to be a stay-at-home mom and raise their five children. After Dean retired from Midwest Electric in 1985, they were able to enjoy their winters in Yuma, Ariz. for 24 years. Dorothy had been battling health problems and had been transferred to the Perkins County Community Hospital where she died on Thursday morning, Jan. 22, 2009. She had reached the age of 81.
Dorothy always had a keen interest in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. As a younger woman she taught many children in Perkins County how to swim at the Grant swimming pool.
She had been a past member of the Grant American Legion Auxiliary, the H.H.M. Extension Club, and had served on the Perkins County High School Board of Education for 22 years. Dean and Dorothy had been active members of the Grant Evangelical Free Church for the past several years.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Oralea Schafer and her brother, Clinton Mutchie.
She is survived by her husband, Dean, of over 61 years; three sons, Lynn and wife Rhonda of Lincoln, Neb., LaVerne and wife Peggi of Holdrege, Neb., and Larry and wife Leita of North Platte, Neb.; two daughters, Loneta and husband Bill May of North Platte and Lisa and husband Turk Engel of Grant; eight grandsons, Daren, Dager, Shane, Shaun, Jebb and Rocky Hatch, Craig and Chris Engel; two granddaughters, Lindsey Bachman and Cashia Dailey, nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at the Grant Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Russ Gaar officiating.
Music was provided by Shannon Malmkar and Jeanne Gaar.
Casket bearers were Daren Hatch, Dager Hatch, Shane Hatch, Shaun Hatch, Jebb Hatch, Rocky Hatch, Craig Engel and Chris Engel.
Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
