Louvella Cook - January 17, 2011

Louvella Cook was born on Aug. 27, 1922 in Grant, Neb. She was the youngest of six children born to Floyd and Vada Inman Peak. She grew up on the Peak family farm southeast of Madrid in the Blanche community. She attended country school and boarded in Grant during her high school years, graduating from Perkins County High School in 1940.
Louvella was married to Harold Cook in North Platte, Neb. on July 26, 1941. Except for a brief period, they made their home in Grant the majority of their married life. Louvella was a devoted wife and mother and was supportive of her husband in Cook’s Upholstery, a longtime Grant business.
Harold died in 2003 and Louvella continued to maintain her home in Grant, eventually moving to Westview Retirement Community. Louvella had been failing in health and moved to the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington, Neb., in October of 2010 to be closer to family. She died at the care center early Monday morning, Jan. 17, 2011. She had reached the age of 88.
Louvella was a long time member of the Grant First Congregational Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Louvella was preceded in death by a young daughter, Glenda, and her five siblings.
She is survived by those she loved, one daughter, Renna and her husband Roger Russell of Hixson, Tenn.; three sons, Terry and his wife Mary Cook of Overton, Neb., Lonnie Cook of Hixson, and Tracy and his wife Julie Cook of Oro Valley, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, LaDenna and husband Glenn Hall of Cartersville, Ga., Peggy and husband Bart Vernon of Chattanooga, Tenn., Tony Cook of Westmont, Ill., Tonya and husband Ryan Banzhaf of Grand Island, Neb., Chad and wife Kristin Cook of West Allis, Wis., Ryan and wife Katie Cook of Elkorn, Neb., Brandi Cook of Phoenix, Alek, Megan, and Madeline Cook, all of Oro Valley; four great-grandchildren, Jenna Banzhaf, Chloe Vernon, Danelle Russell and Alina Hall; one sister-in-law, Grace Peak of Grant; other relatives and friends.
Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the Grant First Congregational Church with Pastor Larry Booth officiating.
Burial of cremains will be in the Grant Fairview Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
