Robert Lee - January 18, 2011
Robert Lee was born on June 26, 1925 at Madrid, Neb. He was one of six children born to Rue and Della Costen Lee. Robert grew up on the farm southeast of Madrid and attended country school through the eighth grade. Robert helped out on the farm and was married to Myrna Price of Madrid on Feb. 10, 1945. Seven children were born to this union.
Robert was inducted into the United States Army at the close of World War II. He served from January of 1946 until his discharge in January of 1947. He served in Panama. After his discharge he returned to the farm.
In 1971 the family moved to a farm outside of Hay Springs, Neb. Robert raised livestock in addition to the crops. He had been in failing health and was moved to the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs in May of 2010. He died at Pioneer Manor on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011. He had reached the age of 85.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Nutt, an infant son, Richard, and a grandson, Staff Sergeant, Jason Fegler.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Myrna; five daughters, Linda Bradfield and husband Art Palomino of Alliance, Neb., Carol and husband Phil Amateis of Broadwater, Neb., Rita and husband Eugene Snyder of Harrisburg, Neb., Kathy Katen of Hay Springs and Kristi and husband Bruce Kutschara of Scottsbluff, Neb.; one son, Bruce and wife Bev Lee of Hay Springs; 19 grandchildren who along with their families gave Robert much joy in his life–Natasha and Amy Bradfield, Ryan Amateis, Jennifer Cole, Alicia Morrison, Stephanie Leedom, Michael Katen, Heath, Dustin, Nicole, Amy, and Chris Lee, Christopher Heiting, Melissa Belknap, Nick and Philip Kutschara, Amy Thompson, Sarah Becthol and Shianne Fegler; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Lee of Madrid and Francis Lee of Grant, Neb.; two sisters, Dorothy Otten and Kathryn Coleman, both of California; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday Jan. 22, 2011 at the Madrid United Methodist Church with Pastor Linda Battello officiating.
Burial was in the Madrid Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Perkins County Veterans.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant was in charge of arrangements.
