Lucille Shinn - January 21, 2011

Lucille Shinn was born on a farm near Lamar, Neb. on April 13, 1919. She was the only child born to Earl and Alma Hopkins Bussell. Lucille attended country school and later high school in Imperial, Neb. where she graduated in 1938. After high school she attended college at Chadron State where she obtained her teacher’s certificate.
Lucille taught school in Nebraska before moving to Denver where she worked for Montgomery Ward. She moved to Pasadena, Calif. where she taught school and later worked for Lockheed.
Lucille met Ralph Shinn, who was from Mullen, Neb., when he became a hired man for her family. Ralph and Lucille were married on June 26, 1948 in Palisade, Neb. They moved to Paxton, Neb. before moving to Grant, Neb.
In 1952 they moved to their farm in Chase County, northwest of Imperial where they lived the majority of their married life.
Ralph died in 1996 and Lucille moved to Littleton, Colo. to be closer to family. She was living in the Bethany Healthplex in Lakewood, Colo. when she died on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. She had reached the age of 91.
Lucille was a member of the Eastern Star and a past member of the Imperial United Methodist Church. She had been a 4-H leader when her girls were growing up. She belonged to the Lamar Extension Club, a square dance club, a card club, the Art Guild, and a genealogy organization.
Lucille is survived by two daughters, Phyllis and her husband Stan Payne of Littleton and Dorothy Shinn and her husband Jim Landis of Edmond, Okla.; two grandchildren, Joshua Payne and Katherine Shinn-Landis; other relatives and friends.
Her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 27 (today) at 10:30 a.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home with John Long officiating.
Burial of cremains will be in the Grant Cemetery.
A memorial to the Alzheimer’s Foundation has been established.
