Opal Tickle - November 26, 2008

Opal Tickle, age 98 of Grant, Neb., died Nov. 26, 2008 at Golden Ours Convalescent Home at Grant.
She was born Sept. 19, 1910 at Blue Hill, Neb., to Elmer and Julia (Brown) Echternach, the ninth of 12 children.  She attended school at Blue Hill.
On Jan. 22, 1933, she married Howard Tickle at Oberlin, Kan. 
The couple made their home in North Platte, Neb., McCook, Neb., and Madrid, Neb., before moving to Oregon. In 1947, they returned to Madrid and in 1961, moved to Grant.
During her lifetime, she had been employed at TRW at Ogallala and was a cook at the Madrid School. She later worked at a café in Grant. In later years, she did volunteer work at the nursing home in Grant. 
Opal was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the United Methodist Church in Grant. 
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; a son, Wayne; a grandson, Trevor; seven brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include five sons, Melvin Tickle of Ogallala, Neb., Harold and wife Carol Tickle of Alexandria, Va., Gerald “Jerry” (Freddie) Tickle of Cozad, Neb., Lonnie and wife Sherry Tickle of Ogallala and Marvin and wife Bobbie Tickle of Laguna Woods, Calif.; one sister, Beulah Marsh of Longmont, Colo.; seven grandsons; two granddaughters and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.  Condolences may be shared at
     Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the United Methodist Church in Grant. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant was in charge of arrangements.
