Ruby Phelps - March 11, 2004

Ruby Phelps was born on Dec. 30, 1914 at Arthur, Neb. She was the fourth of five childen born to Samuel and Rose Cown Royse. The family moved to the Wallace, Neb. area when Ruby was a young girl and she attended school through the 10th grade which was the highest education that was offered at that time.
Ruby was married to Flotow Phelps on Dec. 24, 1931. Flotow was involved in construction and they lived in Wallace, Paxton, Max in Nebraska and Logan, Utah before moving back to a farm west of Wallace in 1942. They later moved into Wallace.
Ruby cooked for Wallace Schools for many years. Flotow died in 1988 and Ruby continued to maintain her own home until 2007 when she moved to the Centennial Park Retirement Village in North Platte. She had begun to fail in health and died at Centennial Park on Sunday morning, April 3, 2011. She had reached the age of 96.
Ruby was a member of the Wallace United Methodist Church, the Legion Auxiliary, the Rebekah Lodge, and was instrumental in establishing the Wallace Senior Center and serving on their first board.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, one grandchild, Claude Phelps and one great-great grandchild, Morgan Moore.
She is survived by two daughters, Marita and husband Dean Lundvall of Wallace and Luana and husband Don Cross of Munds, Ariz.; two sons, Garry and wife Jeanette Phelps of Wallace and Darrel and wife Peggy Phelps of Grand Junction, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. (CDT) at the Wallace United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Fuller officiating.
Burial will be in the Wallace Morningview Cemetery.
