Neva Forbes - February 08, 2009

Neva Forbes was born on April 7, 1933 near Burge, Neb. She was one of five children born to Delmer and Rachel Lux Peterson. She grew up on the Niobrara River and as a young girl she helped her father hunt, fish, and run trap lines.
Neva graduated from Rock County High School in 1950 and attended Chadron State college earning a certificate in teaching.
Neva was married to Raymond Forbes on Dec. 21, 1952 in Bassett, Neb. Neva taught in one-room school houses until her growing family needed her at home.
Ray and Neva lived in different communities in northern Nebraska until 1972 when they moved to Hay Springs, Neb. Neva worked in the kitchen department at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home for several years. She later worked at Dan’s Superette. She continued to live in Hay Springs after her husband died in 1995. Neva had been in failing health and died in Hay Springs on Feb. 8, 2009. She had reached the age of 75.
Neva was active in the Hay Springs United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., garden club, Bible study, and volunteered at the Pioneer Manor. She loved her country living. She enjoyed her family and friends and made many quilts for family members.
Survivors include four children Leonard and wife Linda Forbes of Crawford, Neb., Lewis Forbes of Grant, Neb., Lyle Forbes of Morgonton, N.C., and Lola and husband Bob Merrigan of Curtis, Neb.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Hay Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Heilbrun officiating. Burial was in the Hay Springs Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
