Elaine Ellen Hofer Doell - June 03, 2011

Elaine Ellen Hofer Doell, born Sept. 25, 1939 in Turner County, S. D., passed away June 3, 2011 at home in Elfrida, Ariz. at the age of 71.
One of her greatest gifts was to make people around her feel comfortable and at home, and she used her talents to work with organizations such as the International Flying Farmers, which she served over the past 25 years in numerous capacities, including as duchess and president. She found special joy in her travels and writing for the organization and the many friends she made through it over the years.
She and her husband J. Homer, married for more than 52 years, made their home on farms near Henderson and later Elsie, Neb. before moving to their current farm and most recent adventure near Elfrida in 1996.
An avid gardener, Elaine made each farmstead and home bloom. Elaine took special pride in her grandsons Taylor and Jordan Doell’s accomplishments, and was always quick to point out their most recent successes, whether academic or athletic, and delighted as well in her granddaughter Margaret Kuk’s promise and character.
Elaine will be remembered for her caring for others, for her belief in her children’s strength and potential and for her determination in the face of difficulties.
Her greatest anchor was her love for and faith in her devoted husband., J. Homer Doell.
Elaine is also survived by a daughter Cynthia Doell of Berlin, Germany; a son Brad and wife Tonya Doell of Elsie; grandchildren Jordan Doell, Taylor Doell and Margaret Kuk; two sisters, Joanne Hamre of Baltic, S. D. and Judy Glanzer of Bridgewater, S. D. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
