Russell D. (Rusty) Smith - June 20, 2011

Russell David Smith, 62, passed away Monday June 20, 2011 at his residence in Franklin, Ind. He was born Nov. 14, 1948 in Madrid, Neb. to Russ and Bobbie (Tuey) Smith, formerly of Madrid. He married Jo Etta (Davenport) on July 2, 1993, who lovingly survives him in Franklin.
Russell is also survived by his loving family, two sisters, Karen Raines and Pam Smith;
four stepdaughters, Rachele Adams, Andrea Downey, Elizabeth Sutton, and Mary Downey; a stepson Justin Downey, a nephew Gino Rodeghier and 17 grandchildren.
A beautiful eulogy was delivered by his son Justin. Russell was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Russell served in the Army and Army Reserve for 20 years. Accordingly, he was buried with full military honors. The local Patriot Guard lined the steps to the church steps and he was taken to his final resting place under escort by a Black Hummer and a flag-bearing military motorcycle group. The local fire department saluted him with flashing lights as the procession passed by.
In accordance with his wishes, a Scottish bagpiper played “Taps” and “Amazing Grace” as mourners bid him farewell.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know and love him.
