Keith Larsen - July 27, 2011

Keith Larsen was born on Sept. 5, 1930 on the Larsen family farm northeast of Grant, Neb. He was the third of five children born to Lawrence and Florence Mickels Larsen. Keith grew up on the farm and attended rural school before graduating from Perkins County High School in Grant in 1948.
Keith was married to Betty Shuey on Aug. 7, 1949 in Grant. They lived their married life at the Larsen farm where they raised their five children.
Keith and Betty moved to Grant in 2005. He had lived at the same farm home for over 75 years. Keith developed a lung malignancy earlier this year and had been transferred to the Perkins County Community Hospital where he died on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011. He had reached the age of 80.
Keith had served on the Grant Suburban Fire District Board for 34 years and also on the Perkins County Fair Board for 35 years.
In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Jones.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Betty; four daughters, Kathy Claassen of Prescott, Ariz.; Connie Taylor of Grant; Christi and husband Ron Klima of Grant; and Kelly and husband Bruce Bothast of Cumberland, Md.; one son, Wayne and wife Robin Larsen of Cozad, Neb.; 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Jones of Grant and two brothers, Ron and wife Kay of San Antonio, Texas and Larry and wife Sue of Burnet, Texas; other relatives and friends.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service was held on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Savage officiating. Burial of cremains was in the Grant Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the American Cancer Society. Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
